The Honour has Been Restored!
Splice the Mainbrace! The Royal Honour has been restored!
Tune in to the Minister's official announcement at 9am, reinstating the traditional designations Royal Canadian Navy, Royal Canadian Air Force and the Canadian Army, within the unified command of Her Majesty's Canadian Armed Forces.
I am attending events with the Minister in Halifax today, so will be unable to post anything further.
Be sure to visit royalsalute.ca, where our loyal volunteers will be celebrating this long overdue and joyous news at the appropriate hour.
Thank you all for your support over the past four years, we have finally done it!
Long live the RCN & RCAF!

What a glorious day. Thank you "Restore The Honour". Long live the RCN and the RCAF and God save the Queen!
ReplyDeleteCongrats for all your hard work!!
ReplyDeleteNext step would be to have the Canadian Red Ensign officially designated our country's history flag, and have it permanently flown at Canadian historical sites.
Victory! Now lets Change the Army Unifrom back to Canadain Khaki(which is greener then the Britsh version) and we are all set. God Save the Queen. And yes Let bring Back the Red Ensgin as Canada's flag Old Naval Guard
ReplyDeleteThe Canadian Red Ensign has been designated an official Canadian flag. This was done by Jason Kenney some time ago. It flies over Vimy.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the Ensign flies over Vimy, but it should fly permanently at the War memorial in Ottawa, not to mention every other war memorial in Canada.
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't hurt to have it flown on parliament hill either, and across the country alongside the Maple Lead.
i hope they bring back RCAF ranks, and old Insignia/badges,etc
ReplyDeleteAnd you sir, deserve the thanks of an entire nation, and from my long-deceased RCAF relatives. Just to no longer think of the RCAF or RCN as historical names is such a gift! I shall hoist many a pint today and celebrate the correction of a grievous error. I may not agree with Mr. Harper some of the time, but he has expended political capital for the Canadian military, and for that I will be perpetuall grateful. God bless Canada.
ReplyDeleteI'm also hoping for a restoration of RCAF ranks. Some of the various posts around the net I've read are from RCAF types who want it also.
ReplyDeleteFunny, isn't it? Most of the world's air forces use army ranks and don't see a problem with it. Yet here in Canada, 43 years after the RCAF ceased to exist, only RCAF ranks are seen as truly air force.
Hellyer tried his damnedest but failed to stamp out our sense of identity and pride in service. We wanted none of his nonsense then and we want none of it now. I, for one, am eternally grateful he lived to see this day. No doubt it tastes bitter upon his tongue.
Give us back the Air Marshal. :D
ReplyDeletePlease go to this website and sign the petition to have the Canadian Red Ensign flown alongside the Maple Leaf at the National War Memorial as well as the Canadian War Museum

This is fantastic news for the Country!
ReplyDeleteThank you to all who supported this initiative.
Thank you Prime Minister Harper!
As much as we are attached to the Red Ensign and appreciate the sentiments of those at 'flytheredensign', the proper protocol in Canada for all of those of our war memorials and cemeteries where service personnel from the Commonwealth participated or are buried, is to fly the Royal Union Flag, aka, 'The Union Jack', upon which, like all of our previous ensigns, the Red Ensign is based. Strictly speaking, the Union Flag, under Canadian law on Canadian property in France at Vimy, should be flown.
ReplyDeleteThis protocol has been deliberately ignored in the past because of a requirement in the act that there be provision for the Union Flag in place. The way Liberal governments got away with not flying the flag was to simply not provide a pole. Of course, that is shameless, but after 40 years we're used to it.
The Royal Union Flag is an official Canadian flag. The Red Ensign was also made an official flag of Canada but not by legislation.
As a former member of the Cadets,Milita as well as a member of the Naval reserve( 10 years service) I am very happy and proud to see this day come to pass. I joined in 1984, a time when we even could not call the army ,the army (Mobile Command in thoses days)It seems to me the Navy vets and AirForce vsts fought to restore the tradtions as best as they could. While we proably can not go back completley to the way things were in 1968. Its seems to me the army has really dropped the ball on this whole issue. It might be a really good idea if the Army were to bring back some of its tradtion ie Pips and crowns as well as a Khaki uniform. It time to replace the Green uniform of Paul Hellyer. Again thanks to all who made these possible Old Naval Guard
